BOSE INTRODUCES NEW SOUNDLINK REVOLVE BLUETOOTH SPEAKERS

Bose has announced its best Bluetooth speakers ever -- the new SoundLink Revolve and SoundLink Revolve+.  With true omni-directional performance, and an entirely new acoustic design, Revolve speakers spread deep, jaw-dropping sound in every direction -- from a seamless aluminum design.

To do that, Bose engineers started from a clean-sheet to redefine the relationship between size, sound, and battery-power.  An entirely new acoustic package was developed first, then matched with the cylindrical shape it required, and a single-piece aluminum enclosure.  There’s no “front” or “back,” because Revolve speakers don’t have to be pointed to favor one location over another.   They combine dual-opposing passive-radiators with a powerful, ultra-efficient transducer -- positioned face-down -- and a new patented acoustic deflector.  With an added “pressure trap” to eliminate distortion, the result is dramatic.  Sound radiates uniformly in every direction, with deep, rich bass -- and without the sweet spots and frequency drop-offs of conventional 360-degree speakers.  Set in the middle of the room, a corner, or anywhere in between, Revolve speakers deliver the same experience for everyone.  Music is spacious, clear, and when you want -- remarkably loud.

Both new Revolve models are just at home outside. They feature an IPX4-rating to withstand spills, rain, and pool splashes; and rugged durability to survive dings, drops, and bumps.  A quarter-twenty thread on the bottom of each makes for easy mounting on a tri-pod for listening in the yard or an outdoor party.

Revolve is 6” high x 3 ¼” deep, weighs a mere 1.5 pounds, and provides up to 12-hours of battery life.  Revolve+ is slightly bigger for more performance at 7 ¼” high x 4” deep, 2 pounds, and up to 16-hours of playtime.  Both can pair through NFC, feature plain-language voice-prompts for fool-proof set-up, and integrate microphones to use as a speakerphone, or with Siri and Google Assistant.

The free Bose Connect app now syncs two SoundLinks -- any combination, for any models starting with the SoundLink Color II.  New Stereo Mode enables left-right pairing, and new Party Mode lets you play the same music on both simultaneously.

The SoundLink Revolve and SoundLink Revolve+ Bluetooth speakers will be available beginning May 26, 2017, 2017 for INR 19,900 and INR 24,500, respectively, and come in two colors – Triple Black and Lux Gray.  SoundLink Revolve and SoundLink Revolve+ are sold at Bose stores, Bose.com, authorized Bose dealers.

OnePlus teams up with DxO to 'elevate' the camera experience on the OnePlus 5

OnePlus has announced that it is teaming up with DxO to "enhance" the camera on the OnePlus 5. DxO is the company behind DxOMark, a photography benchmark that is used by leading phone manufacturers. Just this week, HTC announced that its latest flagship — the U11 — netted the highest rating for a smartphone camera, beating out the Pixel.

By partnering with DxO, OnePlus is looking to "take things to the next level" for its upcoming flagship:

We're happy to announce that we have teamed up with DxO to enhance your photography experience with our upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5. DxO is perhaps most well-known for creating the defining photography benchmark, the DxOMark. They've got years of imaging experience and expertise, both for professional cameras and for smartphones.

Working alongside DxO, we're confident the OnePlus 5 will be capable of capturing some of the clearest photos around.

OnePlus didn't go into detail about the partnership, but according to recent leaks, the OnePlus 5 will feature dual rear cameras. We've seen several manufacturers opting for dual rear cameras as a way to differentiate their products — Xiaomi also offers two cameras at the back in the Mi 6 — and OnePlus will be looking to do the same.

As we've seen this year, having the right sensor is just one part of the equation —image processing algorithms make all the difference — and teaming up with DxO should give the OnePlus 5 an advantage in this segment. The phone is slated for an official unveil sometime next month, so we don't have to wait long to find out exactly what's on offer with the OnePlus 5.

Zomato hacked: Dark Web dealer selling 17 million accounts from popular restaurant listing site

Zomato, the popular restaurant and event listing service, has reportedly been hacked and 17 million accounts have been found listed on the dark web for sale. The data on sale includes emails and hashed passwords of Zomato users.

A dark web vendor going by the pseudonym "nclay" has reportedly claimed responsibility for the hack. HackRead reported that the vendor publicly shared a sample of the trove of stolen data. HackRead stated that a test of the sample data showed that every account mentioned on the list existed on Zomato and that the data came from registered Zomato users. IBTimes UK has not independently verified the legitimacy of the stolen data.

Zomato is yet to comment on the matter. The firm, which was founded in 2008 by Indian entrepreneurs Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, reportedly has over 90 million visitors every month and its app is considered to be highly popular in India. Alexa ratings show that it is among the top 155 most visited websites in India.

The service also has a prominent presence globally and is popular in Australia, the Middle East and some eastern European and South American countries, among others.

The undisclosed dark web marketplace where Zomato users' accounts are currently up for sale is also home to numerous other such stolen databases. HackRead reported that the same dark web marketplace also has vendors selling around 100 million accounts from Chinese video service Youku, millions of Gmail and Yahoo accounts and millions of Bitcoin forums data, among other data sets.

Introducing Face Filters and More on Instagram

Instagram has introduced a new set of creative tools to make it more fun and easier than ever to share any moment with friends on Instagram, no matter where you are or what you're doing.

Face filters are a fun new way to turn any selfie into something you can't wait to share. From the subtle twitch of a koala's ear to spotlights that track your position,  our initial set of face filters reflect the craft and creativity that have  been core to Instagram since day one. Here's how they work:

·         Swipe into the camera and you'll see the new icon in the bottom right corner. Tap it to view and try on different face filters and capture a photo, video, boomerang, or our new “rewind” mode that plays in reverse.
·         You can use face filters with other creative tools like stickers, drawing, and text styles.
·         Add a hashtag to your story  with simple text or the new hashtag sticker.
·         Tap  the hashtag to explore related content
·         With the new eraser  brush, you can erase other things you've drawn and play around with  removing color.

Bollywood sensation Alia Bhatt is one of the first users in the country to use the cool new filters on Instagram. In her latest Stories, she shared adorable selfies with her fans and friends, showcasing the various filters with her trademark flair. She can be seen rocking the royal Grecian tiara in one, sporting the geeky, but cool glasses in another and the cute bunny filter with the hashtag sticker in the third.

Also today, Innstagram has rolled out more creative tools in the camera.

You can make videos that play in reverse with “Rewind,” a new camera format next to “Boomerang” and “Hands-Free.” Drop a microphone and watch it fly up into your hand. Capture a fountain in motion and share a rewind of the water floating back up. Experiment with some magic tricks of your own and defy the laws of physics wherever you are.

You can also add more context to your story with a new hashtag sticker. Just tap the sticker icon at the top right of your screen, select and customize the hashtag, then add it to your story. Like with mentions, you can add hashtags using regular text as well. People watching your story will be able to tap the hashtag sticker or text to visit the hashtag page and explore related posts.

Lastly, you'll see a new eraser brush when using drawing tools. You can erase other things you've drawn and play around with removing color. After you've taken a photo or video, select a drawing tool and tap and hold to fill the entire screen with color. Then, using the eraser brush, you can creatively reveal parts of your photo or video underneath.

From the very first photo filter to Boomerang and more, Instagram has always been the place you can go to turn regular moments into something you can't wait to share. Now, you have more fun and easy ways to express yourself and connect with the people you care about most.

WannaCry: Everything You Need To Know About The Global Ransomware Attack

If you’ve done your best to stay away offline for the past two days so you could actually enjoy your weekend, you undoubtedly now find yourself trying to catch up on all the news surrounding WannaCry ransomware. This unprecedented malware attack began sweeping the globe late last week, and security researchers estimated that nearly 57,000 computers in more than 150 countries were infected by the end of the day on Friday. While the spread of this terrifying ransomware was slowed on Saturday, it was hardly stopped. As of Monday morning, more than 200,000 systems around the world are believed to have been infected.

WannaCry is far and away the most severe malware attack so far in 2017, and the spread of this troubling ransomware is far from over. In this post, we’ll tell you what WannaCry is, what developments we’ve seen over the past three days, and how to protect yourself.

What is WannaCry?

First and foremost, let’s clarify exactly what WannaCry is. This malware is a scary type of trojan virus called “ransomware.” As the name suggests, the virus in effect holds the infected computer hostage and demands that the victim pay a ransom in order to regain access to the files on his or her computer.

What exactly does WannaCry do?

RansomWare like WannaCry works by encrypting most or even all of the files on a user’s computer. Then, the software demands that a ransom be paid in order to have the files decrypted. In the case of WannaCry specifically, the software demands that the victim pays a ransom of $300 in bitcoins at the time of infection. If the user doesn’t pay the ransom without three days, the amount doubles to $600. After seven days without payment, WannaCry will delete all of the encrypted files and all data will be lost.

Per Symantec, here is a full list of the filetypes that are targeted and encrypted by WannaCry:

As you can see, the ransomware covers nearly any important file type a user might have on his or her computer. It also installs a text file on the user’s desktop with the following ransom note:

How was WannaCry created?

You can thank the NSA for discovering the “EternalBlue” exploit that would later be used by the WannaCry trojan, and then for keeping under wraps to use for its own intelligence gathering purposes. The security hole was then made public last month when a group of hackers called Shadow Brokers released the details of the exploit to the public.

Is the attack over?

No.

WannaCry was first discovered on Friday, May 12th, and it had spread to an estimated 57,000 computers in more than 150 different countries around the world by the end of the day. European countries were hit the hardest, and business ground to a halt at several large companies and organizations, including banks, hospitals, and government agencies.

On Saturday, a 22-year-old security researcher named Marcus Hutchins inadvertently slowed the spread of the WannaCry virus when he registered a domain name hidden within the virus’ code in an attempt to track the spread of WannaCry, unintentionally stopping its progress in the process. You can read Hutchins’ story in his blog post titled “How to Accidentally Stop a Global Cyber Attacks.”

Unfortunately, the spread of WannaCry wasn’t actually stopped, but instead slowed.

How can I protect myself from WannaCry?

Regardless of which operating system you run, you should install any and all available security updates immediately. Specifically, Windows users with machines that run Windows XP, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2003 should immediately install this security update released on Friday by Microsoft.

What can I do if my computer is infected with WannaCry?

Sadly, there is no fix for WannaCry available at this time. Antivirus companies and cybersecurity experts are hard at work looking for ways to decrypt files on infected computers, but no means of third-party decryption are available right now. Hopefully affected users have backups of their data available, because the only other option right now is to follow the instructions offered in the software to pay the ransom.

Garmin Vivomove Review: Worth It

Whenever I notice someone wearing a smart watch, in my head I go like “Oh this guy wears a smart watch”. Point being, the majority of the smart watches can be clearly distinguished from regular watches. Like other technology trends, I do not see those obsessive crazy watch aficionados picking on to this one. Although a lot of companies nowadays are trying to build smart watches how they should look – luxurious and classy, there is still a long way for them to match up to the likes of Longines and Audemars Piguet who have been foraying into this technology.

From the outside
Ok so when I first got my hands on the all black Garmin Vivomove Sport model, it looked a regular analogue watch that I would not wear as an accessory. But if I ever plan to jump on to the fitness and health bandwagon, I will surely consider this simple all black fitness tracker masquerading as an analogue watch. However, I think with this design, Garmin is losing out on a large fitness oriented TG which is for women. The design has a more male-friendly feel and at 12mm thick, it lacks a slender frame which not many women will go for.

The strong build quality. The black metal frame and silver trim around the 42mm watch case gives it a simple, yet elegant feel. However, if you’re looking for something slightly classy and elegant, the Vivomove does come with two variants; Premium and Classic.

Also, the price point is not too heavy on the pocket, costing around 12-13k on e-commerce platforms in India. If you are lucky Amazon India has lightning deals on the Vivomove.

The not so attractive soft touch 20mm silicon band is something Garmin can surely improve on. But you can always switch to a sports or a leather band since it is easily detachable from the watch case.  The silicon band is handy when you want to go swimming as the Vivomove is 5 ATM waterproof up to 50 metres. I took it for a dip and I am glad to say it survived.

The only other external feature left is the crown, which doesn't work in any particular smart way like the Apple Watch one, but it does let you set the time and when pressed, makes syncing data to your smartphone effortless and reliable.

Activity Tracking
I personal believe that beauty lies in simplicity. And that’s exactly how the activity tracking is. Simple and to the point. Just like Fitbit and Jawbone, there's a pretty standard accelerometer motion sensor to count steps and monitor sleep automatically but the small things always matter and what Garmin has done is enabled this wearable to calculate the distance for your indoor fitness sessions. Although they can definitely work on the UI of the app since it is slightly confusing and cumbersome to find the exact data you are looking for.

Battery Life
It uses the same kind of CR2025 coin cell battery that you find powering most analogue watches so you do not have to stress about the Vivomove dying out on you anytime soon.

It will give you one year's worth of power before it needs to be replaced. That battery is well enclosed inside the watch though so you'll probably need to make a trip to a watch shop to get it replaced when it does run out.

Check out Garmin’s website for specifications and details.

Dekkho turns your device into a television; launches TV-like Linear Programming on its platform

In a development which heralds a major transformation in the OTT entertainment experience in India, online video streaming platform Dekkho has announced the launch of its new Linear Programming feature. A first for any OTT platform, Dekhho’s Linear Programming allows content creators to make customized 24-hour programming with an easy-to-use back-end system and run a first-of-its-kind TV-like format on the digital medium. The feature will be available on Dekkho’s website as well as its Android and iOS mobile applications.

Dekkho will jointly curate along with content creators, existing top performing videos as well as undiscovered premium videos from its repository and organize them to create long-form content packages from different creators. Since content creators will not be required to create additional or fresh content in order to feature on the platform’s linear TV playlist, existing video content on the platform will benefit from increased viewership. Likewise, short-form content creators will get greater exposure through this pseudo-long content format, which will help them realize up to 3-5 times higher viewing for their catalogues. Creators will additionally be granted total control over the content published, its genre, and running time, and will receive direct feedback from fans and users on current as well as upcoming programming. Dekkho will also enable them to plan and update their programming according tothe viewer demand.

With the linear programming feature, users can forego the manual discovery and selection of videos and instead view a selection of relevant content bundled together at the push of a button. Users also get the chance to discover content from multiple creators who provide similar content through Dekkho’s recommendation engine, thereby offering increased visibility to more non-mainstream and regional creators. Users can also view regional content in their preferred language from multiple creators in a single package. Dekkho will additionally give its users the power to decide what they want to watchby creating their own programming playlist through a feature called ‘Reels’. This will allow any Dekkho user to pick videos from its library and assemble a programming playlist. Dekkho will in turn gamify this process to drive user engagement. Dekkho also plans to eventually enable downloading of a section of linear programming for offline consumption.

Since its launch, Dekkho has disrupted online video streaming with its differentiated approach. It aims to revolutionize videos in India by providing premium content across music, comedy, fashion, food, travel, and lifestyle which first premiers on Dekkho. The platform allows its users to discover, view, share, and recommend high-quality content close to their hearts through an invite-only feature.
