Creative Woof 3 Review – A Good speaker in a Good package

Creative, known well for its audio products recently released their Bluetooth audio speaker called Woof 3. This little versatile speaker is meant for those who’d like to play music on the go for personal listening, small get-togethers, or as a conference call speaker.

Really Compact:
This little speaker is small, not as small to fit in your pocket but small enough to take around and yet not be intrusive. The speaker is light weighing just 237 grams.

Oh yeah it’s really small

The Looks:
The speaker has a really nice metallic finish which comes in various enticing colours.

Creative Woof 3 really comes in nice colours

Features:
The speaker comes packed with a lot of features and some of which are outright surprising. In addition to Bluetooth support, the speaker comes with upto 32GB microSD card support which handles not only MP3 but also WAV, FLAC and APE. So no matter what you load into it, it will play without issues. You can also connect the speaker via Aux cable and straight up to Mac/PC via USB cable with USB host audio support.

microSD Card insert at the back of Woof 3 upside down

Performance:
The speaker is loud and clear at the same time; not many speakers in this range achieve both those conditions. The speaker can handle mids and highs well. These are clear even at loud volume, though too loud and you’ll notice the speaker having clipping issues depending on the gain volume set by your player.

Where the speaker lacks of course is the bass department, you’ll get mid-bass but not deep bass nor the impact that a sub-woofer can kick up. So genres where you want bass like rap, hip-pop, techno will not feel as full. Where this does shine is with unplugged music, vocals, classical music, pop and rock sounded good albeit with thin bass. Bass can be added a bit more with the right EQ (equalizer) balancing from your player.

Where you put the speaker for listening will greatly improve the kind of sound it can give out. E.g. on a desk, you’ll feel the speaker bounce where deep bass is required sounding hollow, though on a soft surface, or a window sill in a corner you’d get more bass due to the room acoustics. So your mileage will vary.

The mic in the front of the unit

Since the speaker is good at vocals, it acts well as a conference speaker. However, you need to be aware of where the mic is otherwise you’ll sound too distant to the listener at the other end.

One thing of note is that Woof 3 can irritatingly skip tracks as buttons on the side double up as volume controls so expect to accidentally skip to next track instead of increasing the volume.

Verdict:
This little speaker is quite impressive for the sound and features that it provides. It indeed is a premium Bluetooth speaker which doesn’t disappoint. Rs.4000 MRP is on the higher side, however you can find it much cheaper at Rs.2,500 (as of feb 2016) online, which makes this a damn good deal.

New update on Google Maps to allow pit stops in navigation mode

You’re on a road trip and realize you’re running low on fuel, but you’re not sure whether it’s best to turn back to the last petrol station you saw, or see if you can make it to the next one. With today’s update on Google Maps for Android, making that decision just got a little easier. You can now search for and add an extra stop to your route, without having to exit navigation mode in Google Maps.

This ensures quicker pit stops and fewer long detours as users can search for places like gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores and more along their route on Google Maps. Google Maps will also show you how long a stop will add to your trip while keeping you on your route.

It's very simple. For example, you're driving in navigation mode and suddenly get a call from your partner to pick up some groceries on your drive home, or if you're on a road trip and you suddenly decide to find a great restaurant option along your route, simply tap the magnifying glass at the top right corner of the screen. You’ll see a drop-down menu with helpful options, like petrol pumps, grocery stores, and restaurants. If the drop-down options aren't what you need, you can now even add a detour to your favourite coffee shop by tapping the search icon or by using voice commands. So whether you're low on fuel, need cash and looking for the closest ATM, or just want to grab a coffee before your next appointment, this new feature from Google Maps will make your pit-stop easier.

OPPO Unveils World’s First SmartSensor Image Stabilization Tech at MWC

OPPO has unveiled a breakthrough SmartSensor image stabilization and Super VOOC Flash Charge technologies at Mobile World Congress 2016.

Alen, Vice-President of OPPO, Marketing Director of Mainland China Mobile Business

Super VOOC Flash Charge uses a 5V low-voltage pulse-charge algorithm, ensuring a low-temperature charge that’s safe for the battery. The all-new algorithm pairs with a customized super battery, as well as a new adapter, cable and connector made using premium, military-grade materials. Super VOOC Flash Charge supports Micro USB or type-C interfaces, in line with the global standard.

Optical image stabilization technologies come in two types, lens-based and sensor-based, but due to the size limitations of smartphones, all previous solutions across the industry were lens-based. OPPO’s SmartSensor is the first-ever sensor-based solution for smartphones, as well as the smallest optical image stabilizer of any kind in the world!

SmartSensor improves on other solutions with a key advantage. Existing lens-based stablizers can only correct for vibrations on two axes of motions, the pitch axis and yaw axis, even though the most common type of unwanted shaking during photography actually takes place on the roll axis. SmartSensor solves this problem, allowing for image stabilization on three axes, pitch, yaw and the all-important roll. Making split-second adjustments with its comb-shaped monocrystalline silicon MEMS, SmartSensor achieves full three-axis image stabilization in a mere 15 milliseconds.

At the same time, SmartSensor uses a voltage-driven sensor, reducing power consumption to as low as 10 milliwatts, 50 times less than the power consumption of lens-based solutions.

Meanwhile, whereas lens-based image stabilizers generally have a precion of between 3 and 5 μm, SmartSensor remains precise to a vibration of just 0.3μm. The size of a pixel is usually larger than 1 μm, meaning that SmartSensor is the world’s first pixel-level image stabilize.

IO Walk IO Elite Review

Self-balancing scooters, or more inaccurately yet commonly known as hoverboards are an incredibly dangerous trend. People have fallen off them, broken bones, gotten into terrible accidents, and the cheaper scooters have even been known to spontaneously combust. Still the demand for them is on a constant high, and for a good reason too – they're bloody fun!

The IO Elite instantly seemed like a much better option as compared to the cheaper scooters I had seen before, both in India as well as HongKong. Sure, it had the same indicators and switches, but the overall build seemed a lot more solid, and the rubber surface offered much better friction than what I had experienced earlier. It even came with a remote control to conveniently switch it off once done.

Getting on a self-balancing scooter always comes with a learning curve and though I had the (mis) fortune of trying one earlier, I had a slight idea of what goes into safely getting on and off. The whole things works on unconsciously shifting your body weight for movement and centre yourself for it to stop. It's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it, but the tricky part is to get on flat footed while maintaining your centre of balance.

The IO Elite had quite a powerful motor under it, which could easily handle my 80 kilos of heft. It claims to go as fast as 10 kph, but frankly I didn't check up on how fast I was going on it. It was quick to accelerate, which is something I had to get used to, but once I did, I could somewhat control the increase and decrease in speed.

In the handful of days I had the IO Elite, I wouldn't go as far as saying that I mastered it, but I did enjoy the time I had on it. It's fun, addictive and most importantly, safer than the cheaper unbranded options you get out there. The IO Elite costs Rs 50,000 and is completely worth it.

A college kid manages to get Gold Apple iPhone 5S for Rs 68 on Snapdeal

The iPhone 5S currently retails for Rs. 28,999 Rupees on Snapdeal. A college kid got it for Rs 68 ONLY. Here's how. Punjabi University B.Tech student Nikhil Bansal did what anyone would do if they spot a 99.7% off on an iPhone - he grabbed it.

He ordered the iPhone 5S for Rs 68 on February 12 2016, and waited. The phone never came, because it might have been a technical snag rather than a great Snapdeal discount. The order was cancelled and Nikhil never received that iPhone. He sent several emails to the company support team but there was no revert.

Finally, he filed a consumer court complaint and alleged that Snapdeal refused to ‘honor the deal’. Not only did the court order Snapdeal to sell him the iPhone 5S for Rs. 68, but the ecommerce giant was also made to pay a Rs 2000 penalty.

Snapdeal contested the decision in a consumer forum, and reportedly lost again, this time being ordered pay a fine of Rs 10,000 to close the case.
